East Surrey League - Men

Epsom men played their fifth league game of the season away against Bletchingley on Saturday 31st May 2025. They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 39 - 55 (2 - 8).

Details:

Rink 2  David Bragg Bob Blaker David Fearn Les Owen  won 15 - 12

The scores were level 6 - 6 after 9 ends and still level 12 - 12 on end 16.  Epsom won the last 2 ends to win by 3 shots.

Rink 3  Stefan Tomm John Hart John Warren Jim Scott  lost 14 - 20

Epsom were 8 - 10 down after 9 ends & 12 - 19 on end 15.  They lost by 6 shots.

Rink 4  Roger Jackson Phil Sims Norman Mann Martin Harbottle  lost 10 - 23

Epsom were 5 - 10 down after 9 ends & 8 - 20 behind on end 15.  They lost by 13 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 39  Bletchingley 55  Epsom 2 points  Bletchingley 8 points.

Bowls England - Tony Allcock Trophy (Over 60's Two Mixed Fours)

Epsom travelled to Horley to play in the Tony Allcock Trophy on Friday 30th May 2025. They won on 1 rink, lost on the second & lost overall 32 - 34. The game was lost over the last 3 ends across the 2 rinks.  Epsom led 16 - 12 after 9 ends & 30 - 25 on ends 15.  They were outscored 2 - 9 over the last 3 ends to lose by 2 shots.

Epsom led 8 - 4 after 9 ends & 20 - 7 on end 15.  They won by 8 shots.

Rink 2  Stefan Tomm Liz Hind Sandy Cooper Keith Roberts  lost 11 - 21

The scores were level 8 - 8 after 9 ends, but Epsom were 10 - 18 down on end 15.  They lost by 10 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 32  Horley 34

Liz Hind played in her first game in this Competition.

Vilamoura Mixed League

Epsom played their second Vilamoura match of the season against Cheam & won on both rinks.  They won 44 - 29 (6 - 0).

The scores were level 7 - 7 after 10 ends, but Epsom led 18 - 9 on end 15.  They won by 9 shots.

Away: Rink 2  Lynn Phillips Roger Jackson Phil Sims  won 24 - 18

Epsom led 14 - 4 after 9 ends & 24 - 8 on end 16.  They dropped 10 shots over the last 2 ends, but won by 6 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 44 Cheam 29  Epsom 6 points  Cheam 0 points

Bowls England - Top Club (Top 11)

Epsom men played at home against Purley in the Bowls England Top Club on Sunday 25th May 2025. They won on all disciplines.

Details:

Rink 5  Singles: David Bragg  won 21 - 9

David led 12 - 5 after 10 ends & 19 - 8 on end 18.  He won by 12 shots after 21 ends.

Rink 2  Two Wood: Bob Blaker  won 17 - 6

Bob led 10 - 5 after 10 ends and won the next 5 ends to lead 17 - 5.  He won by 11 shots after 16 ends.

Rink 1  Pairs: John Hart David Fearn  won 21 - 17

John & David led 13 - 1 after 5 ends & 16 - 7 on end 10.  They led by 12 shots (21 - 9) on end 15 & won by 4 shots.

Rink 4  Triples: Mick Cooper John Warren Norman Mann  won 16 - 12 (17 ends)

Epsom led 8 - 4 after 9 ends & 13 - 11 on end 15.  They won by 4 shots.

Rink 3  Fours: Roger Jackson Kevin Phillips Martin Harbottle Les Owen  won 24 - 11 (17 ends)

Epsom led 15 - 4 after 9 ends & by 12 shots (22 - 10) on end 15.  They won by 13 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 5  Purley 0

Epsom men played their fourth league game of the season at home against Sutton on Saturday 24th May 2025. They lost on all 3 rinks & the match 41 - 70 (0 - 10).

Details:

Epsom were 6 - 10 down after 10 ends & lost the next 3 ends to go further behind 6 - 21.  They lost by 12 shots.

Rink 4  David Bragg Bob Blaker David Fearn Les Owen  lost 15 - 16

Epsom led 9 - 6 after 9 ends, but the scores were level 11 - 11 on end 13.  The scores were still level with one end to play & Epsom dropped 1 shot to lose by 1.

Rink 5  Keith Roberts Richard Price Martin Harbottle Norman Mann  lost 12 - 28

Epsom were 6 - 11 down after 5 ends & lost the next 4 ends to go 6 - 17 behind.  They lost by 16 shots.

Bowls England Two Fours

Epsom men played away against Cheam Fields in the BE Two Fours on Friday 23rd May 2025. They won on 1 rink, lost on 1 rink & won overall 30 - 25.

Details:

Rink 2  John Wellard Keith Roberts John Warren Norman Mann  lost 11 - 15

Epsom led 7 - 5 after 9 ends. However, the scores were level 10 - 10 on end 14. They went behind 10 - 12 on the next end & lost by 4 shots.

Rink 3  Roger Jackson Bob Blaker David Fearn Martin Harbottle won 19 - 10

Epsom led all evening.  They were 11 - 5 ahead after 10 ends, 14 - 9 on end 14 & won by 9 shots.

Final Score: Epsom 30  Cheam Fields 25

Roger Jackson played in his first game in this Competition.

 

Men's Friendly

Epsom men travelled to Purley to play in a friendly triples match on Thursday 22nd May 2025.  They won on 2 rinks, lost on 1 rink & won overall 58 - 53. After 9 ends across the 3 rinks Epsom led 31 - 20 & by 10 shots (49 - 39) on ends 15.  They won by 5 shots.

Details:

Rink 2  Ray Evans Fred Read John Warren  lost 17 - 22

Epsom led 16 - 7 after 12 ends, but lost 5 of the remaining ends to lose by 5 shots.

Rink 3  Nick Rowan Richard Price Les Owen  won 22 - 19

Epsom were 10 - 12 down after 9 ends, but led 17 - 13 on end 15.  They won by 3 shots.

Rink 4  Phil Sims Frank Thompson David Fearn  won 19 - 12

The score was 5 - 4 to Epsom after 7 ends, but they won the next 5 ends to lead 14 - 4.  They won 4 of the last 5 ends to win by 7 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 58  Purley 53

Nick Rowan played his first Men's friendly match for Epsom Bowling Club.

Did you know

Epsom first played Purley in a friendly match in 2016.  Since then there have been 9 games with Epsom winning 8 of these.  They lost in 2019.

 

Ladies' Friendly

Epsom Ladies played away against Banstead Neville on Tuesday 20th May 2025. They won on both rinks & the match 31 - 16. After 9 ends across both rinks Epsom were 10 - 13 down, but led 26 - 14 on ends 15.  They went on to win by 15 shots.

Epsom were 3 - 5 down after 8 ends, but won the next 6 ends to lead 13 - 5.  They went on to win by 11 shots.

Epsom were 6 - 8 down after 9 ends, but won the next 7 ends to lead 14 - 8.  They lost the last 2 ends, but won by 4 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 31  Banstead Neville 16

Epsom Ladies have now won 4 games in a row against Banstead Neville.  The last time they lost was in 2018.

 

Bowls Surrey - Mixed Pairs

Sandy & Mick Cooper played against Horley in the Bowls Surrey Mixed Pairs on Monday 19th May 2025.  This turned out quite a remarkable game for the Epsom Pair.

Epsom led 5 - 2 after 5 ends, but lost he next 8 ends to trail 5 - 15.  However, they won the next 5 ends scoring 2, 4, 1, 3, & 1 shots to tie the scores 15 - 15.  They scored 1 shot on the last end to achieve an outstanding win by 1 shot.

Sandy & Mick play away against Chipstead or Old Coulsdon in the next round.

Epsom men played their third league game of the season away against Dorking on Saturday 17th May 2025. They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 47 - 56 (2 - 8).

Epsom were 28 - 30 down after 9 ends across the 3 rinks, but were level 43 - 43 after 15 ends. However, they were outscored 4 - 13 by Dorking over the last 3 ends to lose by 9 shots.

Epsom were 6 - 10 down after 9 ends, but led 17 - 11 on end 15.  They won by 2 shots.

Epsom were 7 - 16 down after 9 ends, 9 - 20 behind on end 15 & lost by 9 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 47  Dorking 56   Epsom 2 points  Dorking 8 points

 

Ladies' Friendly

Epsom Ladies played away against Dorking on Saturday 17th May 2025. They won on 1 rink, drew on 1 rink & won overall 34 - 29.  After 9 ends across the 2 rinks Epsom were 12 - 19 down, but went on to win by 5 shots.

Epsom were 5 - 9 down after 9 ends & 11 - 15 behind on end 15.  They won the last 3 ends to tie the rink.

Rink 6  Janet Newman Liz Hind Annette Jordan  won 19 - 14

Epsom were 7 - 10 down after 9 ends, but took the lead 14 - 11 on end 14.  They won the last 2 ends to win by 5 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 34  Dorking 29

 

Bowls England Two Fours

Epsom men played at home against Purley Bury in the BE Two Fours on Wednesday 14th May 2025 and won on 1 rink, drew on the second & won overall by 1 shot. Epsom led 26 - 18 after 9 ends across the 2 rinks & went on to win by 1 shot.

Epsom led 14 - 11 after 9 ends & 20 - 15 on end 15.  They lost the last 3 ends to tie the rink.

Rink 4  Stefan Tomm Bob Blaker David Fearn Martin Harbottle won 18 - 17

Epsom led 12 - 7 after 9 ends & 16 - 14 on end 15. Going into the last end Epsom led 18 - 14, but dropped 3 shots to win by 1 shot.

Final Score:  Epsom 38  Purley Bury 37

Epsom Ladies played away against Malden Manor on Tuesday 13th May 2025. They won on 1 rink, lost on 1 rink & lost overall 24 - 30.

Epsom were 4 - 9 down after 8 ends & lost by 9 shots.

Epsom were 6 - 9 down after 9 ends, but were level 13 - 13 on end 15.  They lost 2 of the last 3 ends to lose by 2 shots.

Epsom led 11 - 6 after 11 ends, but lost the next 6 ends to go 11 - 15 down.  They lost by 3 shots.

Epsom travelled the short distance to play Sutton in the ESL Top Club on Thursday 8th May 2025. They won the Triples, lost the Fours, Pairs & both singles.

Details:

Singles: David Bragg lost 8 - 21

David led 8 - 7 after 12 ends, but lost all the remaining ends to lose by 13 shots (19 ends played).

Two Wood: Bob Baker  lost 4 - 17

After 8 ends Bob was 3 - 9 down & lost on the 16th end by 13 shots.

Pairs: John Hart David Fearn lost 13 - 17

Epsom led 10 - 2 after 7 ends, but lost the next 5 ends to go 10 - 11 down. They lost by 4 shots.

Triples: Phil Sims John Warren Norman Mann  won 20 - 11

Epsom led 9 - 7 after 9 ends & won 6 of the remaining ends to win by 9 shots.

Fours: Mick Cooper Kevin Phillips Fred Read Martin Harbottle lost 13 - 20

Epsom were 6 - 9 down after 8 ends & lost by 7 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 1 point Sutton 4 points

Epsom led 12 - 7 after 10 ends & won the next 6 ends to lead 26 - 7.  They lost the last 2 ends, but won by 14 shots.

Epsom led 11 - 6 after 9 ends & won the next 4 ends to go ahead 20 - 7. They won by 11 shots.

Roger Jackson played his very first game in this league.  He becomes the 174th member of the Club to play in this ESL League.

Epsom Ladies played against Supreme away on Thursday 1st May 2025. They lost on both rinks & the match 14 - 22. (12 ends played). Epsom led 11 - 6 across both rinks after 6 ends, but lost by 8 shots.

Epsom Men played their very first friendly match against Chipstead on Sunday 27th March 2025. They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 36 - 60.
