Past Times Epsom played against Cheam on Wednesday 20th August 2025. They won at home, lost away & lost overall 25 - 37 Details: Home: Roger Jackson Barry Jordan David Fearn Norman Mann won 17 - 13 Epsom were 4 - 10 down after 9 ends & 11 - 15 behind on end 15. They won the last 3 ends to win by 4 shots. Away: Richard Price Bob Blaker Phil Sims Les Owen lost 8 - 24 Epsom were 5 - 13 down after 9 ends, 8 - 17 behind on end 15 & lost by 16 shots. Final Score: Epsom 25 Cheam 37 Richard, Roger, Barry & Norman played in their very first game in the Past Times competition. Did you know The rules for this competition changed in 2025 so that only 1 badged player could take part in each rink. Norman & Les were the badged players in this game. Epsom have not won this competition, but were finalists in 2010 - they lost to Sutton. They were semi finalists in 2017 & 2019.

East Surrey League - Mid Week Triples Epsom played away on Tuesday 19th August 2025 against Shirley Park. They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 45 - 51 (2 - 8). After 9 ends across the 3 rinks Epsom were 22 - 23 down, but they were 13 shots behind (31 - 44) on ends 15. They lost by 6 shots. Details: Rink 3 John Hart Kevin Phillips Phil Sims won 17 - 13 Epsom were 8 - 5 ahead after 9 ends, but 10 - 11 down on end 15. They picked up 6 shots on the next end to re take the lead & won by 4 shots. Rink 4 Terry Mears Roger Jackson Brian Collis lost 14 - 18 Epsom were 2 - 14 down after 9 ends & 5 - 18 behind on end 13. They won the last 5 ends & lost by 4 shots. Rink 5 Richard Price Rob Murkin Fred Read lost 14 - 20 Epsom led 12 - 4 after 9 ends, but lost the next 5 ends to go 12 - 15 down. They lost by 6 shots. President's Inviatation Day - Sunday 17th August 2025 Our President Liz held her President's Invitation Day on Sunday 17th August 2025. Local clubs were invited to send three players joined by one Epsom player and eight clubs accepted the invitation. Four rinks of Epsom players were added to ensure that the green was full. On a beautiful afternoon the clubs were divided into two sections, Green and Yellow, and played four sets of five ends. At the end of play Dorking and Leatherhead topped their respective colours. Following an exciting one end play off Leatherhead emerged as the days' winners. The match was followed by a sit down BBQ with the clubhouse decorated in the club colours of green and yellow, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. Liz would like to thank everyone who not only played but also helped and supported her in a very successful day.

Mixed Friendly Epsom played away on Saturday 16th August 2025 against Reigate Priory. They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & won overall 50 - 43. After 9 ends across the 3 rinks the scores were level 23 - 23. However, Epsom led by 17 shots (45 - 28) on ends 15. They won by 7 shots. Details: Rink 3 Don Indran Rob Murkin Annette Jordan lost 16 - 18 Epsom were 8 - 12 down after 12 ends, but won the next 3 ends to lead 15 - 12. They lost 2 of the last 3 ends to lose by 2 shots. Rink 4 Penny Payne Frank Thompson John Wellard lost 9 - 14 Epsom were 4 - 8 down after 9 ends & 9 - 10 behind on end 16. They lost the last 2 ends to lose by 5 shots. Rink 5 Ray Evans Karen Wellard David Fearn won 25 - 11 Epsom led 10 - 4 after 8 ends & won the next 4 ends to lead 18 - 4. They led 18 - 6 on end 13 & won 4 of the last 5 ends to win by 14 shots. Final Score: Epsom 50 Reigate Priory 43 Did you know Epsom first played Reigate Priory in a mixed match in 2008. Since then the clubs have met 11 times with Epsom winning 9 & losing 2. This season Epsom have played 8 mixed matches, won 4 & lost 4.

Vilamoura Mixed League Epsom played Rose Hill on Thursday 14th August 2025. They won at home & away winning 37 - 34 (6 - 0). Details: Home: Don Indran Mary Green Fred Read won 19 - 18 Epsom were 9 - 11 down after 9 ends & going into the last end they were 13 - 18 behind. However, they scored a count of 6 to win by 1 shot. Away: Elaine Coe Kevin Phillips Frank Thompson won 18 - 16 Epsom were 13 - 8 ahead on end 10, but lost the next 5 ends to be level 13 - 13. They were still level 16 - 16 going into the last end, but picked up 2 shots to win by 2. Final Score: Epsom 37 Rose Hill 34 Epsom 6 points Rose Hill 0 points Kevin played his very first game in this league & becomes the 59th member of Epsom Bowling Club to play in this competition. Did you know Epsom have played Rose Hill 8 times in this league & won 6, lost 1 & drawn 1. This season Epsom have played 10 matches, won 5 & lost 5.

After 9 ends across the 3 rinks Epsom were 18 - 28 down, but led by 6 shots (45 - 39) on ends 15. They won by 11 shots. Details: Rink 4 Roger Jackson Frank Thompson Keith Roberts won 24 - 7 The scores were level 5 - 5 after 7 ends, but Epsom won the next 6 ends to lead 21 - 5. They won by 17 shots. Rink 5 Richard Price Ray Evans Mick Cooper lost 13 - 17 Epsom were 6 - 9 down after 9 ends, 11 - 15 behind on end 15 & lost by 4 shots. Rink 6 Don Indran Kevin Phillips Fred Read lost 18 - 20 Epsom were 3 - 14 down after 9 ends & 12 - 17 behind on end 15. They lost by 2 shots. Final Score: Epsom 55 Epsom Park 44 Epsom 6 points Epsom Park 4 points Did you know This was the second game that these two clubs have met. Epsom have won 1 & lost 1. Mixed Friendly Epsom played at home on Tuesday 12th August 2025 against Ashtead. They won on 3 rinks, lost on 1 rink & won overall 67 - 31. This was a return fixture which was set up as a challenge by Ashtead over 2 matches. Because of the heat it was decided to play 15 ends. In the away fixture Epsom lost 39 - 59, but the win here means Epsom win the Challenge Cup 106 - 90. Details: Rink 1 Penny Payne Barry Coe John Wellard Mick Cooper won 22 - 6 Epsom won 11 of the 15 ends. They ere 2 - 6 down after 6 ends, but won all the remaining ends to win by 16 shots. Rink 2 Sandy Cooper Karen Wellard Fred Read Bob Blaker won 19 - 9 Epsom were 2 - 1 ahead after 3 ends & won the next 10 ends to lead 19 - 1. They lost the last 2 ends & won by 10 shots. Rink 3 Sue Carter Frances Suttonwood Mary Green Brian Collis won 17 - 6 Epsom led 9 - 3 after 8 ends & 16 - 4 on end 12. They won by 11 shots. Rink 4 Elaine Coe Sue Skinner Frank Thompson Christine Summerfield lost 9 - 10 Epsom were 4 - 6 down after 7 ends, but they were level 8 - 8 on end 13. They lost by 1 shot. Final Score: Epsom 67 Ashtead 31 Did you know Frank Thompson played in his 50th mixed match. The two games scheduled for 2025 were set up to be a challenge contest. A Cup was presented to the winners over the 2 games by Ashtead. Epsom have played Ashtead 13 times in mixed friendly matches. They have won 10, lost 3 & there have been 4 games cancelled. This season Epsom have played 7 mixed matches & won 4 & lost 3.

Mixed Friendly Epsom played at home on Sunday 10th August 2025 against the Insurance Bowling Association. They won on 1 rink, lost on 3 rinks & lost overall 52 - 72. After 9 ends across the 4 rinks Epsom led 31 - 28. However. they were outplayed 21 shots to 44 over the last 9 ends & lost by 20 shots. Rink 6 Ray Evans Christine Summerfield Bob Blaker lost 13 - 16 Epsom were 5 - 10 down after 9 ends, but drew level 12 - 12 on end 14. They lost 3 of the last 4 ends to lose by 3 shots. Final Score: Epsom 52 Insurance B A 72 Did you know Epsom first played the Insurance B A in 2006. Cropley Cup - Men v Ladies The Annual match between the Men & Ladies took place on Thursday 7th August 2025. The men won on 3 rinks, lost on 1 rink & won overall 68 - 52. The men led 38 - 24 after 9 ends & b 16 shots (57 - 41) on ends 15. They won by 16 shots. Details: Rink 1 Don Indran Mick Cooper Les Owen won 22 - 8 v Penny Payne Sue Skinner Ruth Baker The men led 12 - 3 after 9 ends & 17 - 7 on end 15. They won by 14 shots. Rink 2 Robert York Barry Jordan Bob Blaker won 20 - 12 v Elaine Coe Frances Suttonwod Annette Jordan The men led 13 - 5 after 9 ends & 18 - 9 on end 15. They won by 8 shots. Rink 3 Barry Coe Richard Price John Warren lost 12 - 20 v Sue Carter Sandy Cooper Christine Summerfield The men were 7 - 9 down after 9 ends, but led 12 - 11 on end 13. They lost all the remaining ends to lose by 8 shots. Rink 4 Stefan Tomm Kevin Phillips Phil Sims won 14 - 12 v Janet Newman Liz Hind Fi Drinkall The men were 6 - 7 down after 9 ends & 10 - 11 behind on end 15. They won by 2 shots. Final Score: Epsom Men 68 Epsom Ladies 52 Did you know The Cropley Cup was presented by a Mr Robert Tyler in 1915. The Cup is silver & marked Birmingham 1913. It was previously known as 'The Epsom Bowling Club Challenge Cup & was won outright by Mr Chas Cropley. It was then played for by the Men v Ladies in an annual match. This year is regarded as the Men's match.

Men's Friendly Epsom played away against Carshalton in a friendly match on Wednesday 6th August 2025. They won on all 3 rinks & the match 66 - 26. Epsom led 24 - 14 after 9 ends & by 24 shots (56 - 22) on ends 15. They won by 40 shots. Details: Rink 3 Stefan Tomm Bob Blaker David Fearne won 17 - 11 After 10 ends Epsom were 5 - 7 down, but won the next 4 ends to lead 12 - 7. They won by 6 shots. Rink 4 Richard Price Norman Mann Martin Harbottle won 33 - 5 Epsom won 15 of the 18 ends. They led 14 - 2 after 9 ends, 30 - 5 on end 15 & won by 28 shots. Rink 5 Don Indran Nick Rowan Les Owen won 16 - 10 Epsom were 4 - 6 down after 8 ends, but won the next 5 ends to lead 14 - 6. They won by 6 shots Final Score: Epsom 66 Carshalton 26 Did you know Epsom first played Carshalton in a friendly match in 1995. Since then they have met 24 times with Epsom winning 15, losing 9 & 5 games have been cancelled.

They led 33 - 14 after 9 ends across the 2 rinks & won by 28 shots. Details: Rink 5 Penny Payne Sue Skinner Ruth Baker Mary Green won 25 - 12. Epsom led 22 - 4 after 9 ends & 23 - 11 on end 15. They won by 13 shots. Rink 6 Sandy Cooper Liz Hind Frances Suttonwood Annette Jordan won 26 - 11 Epsom led 11 - 10 after 9 ends & won 8 of the last 9 ends to win by 15 shots. Chrystie League 2025 Here is a report on the Chrystie League in 2025 (2024 figures in brackets). This year Epsom won 7 (7) & lost 3 (2). Epsom ended up gaining 25 (28) points and came second in the League (won in 2024). In all 20 (23) members represented Epsom in the Chrystie League in 2025. The following are some significant appearances:- Phil Sims 10, John Hart 9, Mick Cooper 8, Richard Price 7, Fred Read 7 & John Wellard 7. *Here are some facts that you may find interesting from 2025 (2024 data in brackets)* Number of rinks won 11 (12) Number of rinks lost 9 (6) Epsom won 2 (4) of the games 4 - 0 and lost 1 (1) game 4 - 0. The best match win was 42 - 27 (+15) against Esher on the 2nd July 2025. The best rink win was a 24 - 8 against Esher on 7th July 2025. The highest total shots scored in a match was 69 shots on 2nd June 2025 v Esher (42 - 27). The lowest combined total of shots scored was 55, (28 - 27) in the match against Pippbrook on 28th July 2025. In 2025 Epsom scored 332 (301) shots for & there were 304 (242) shots scored against. The total points gained was 25 (28). When Epsom won the League in 2004 they achieved 35 points. The number of members who have played in the Chrystie League since 2001 is 92. *A little bit of history:-* Since the Chrystie League began in 2001 Epsom have played 227 matches. Of these 136 have been won, 84 lost, 7 drawn and 11 cancelled. The highest number of shots scored in a season was in 2018 (392) when Epsom were the Champions. Since 2001 Epsom have a very good record in this league, winning in 2004, 2017, 2018, 2023 & 2024. They have been 2nd in 2003, 2005, 2006, 2013, 2022 & 2025. After 9 ends across both rinks Epsom led 19 - 13 & were 7 shots ahead (29 - 22) on ends 15. They won by 4 shots. Sutton & District Bowling Association - Yonwin Cup Epsom travelled the short distance on Sunday 3rd August 2025 to play Epsom Park in the Yonwin Cup. They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 40 - 54. After 9 ends across the 3 rinks Epsom were 21 - 27 down & 13 shots (34 - 47) on ends 15. They lost by 14 shots.
