Thursday 10th July 2014 On Thursday 10th July the green was hired out to Epsom Male Voice Choir. This is an extract from an e-mail received from them a few days later. Hi Lyz, I would like to give you and all at Epsom Bowling Club on behalf of Epsom Male Voice Choir a very big thank you for hosting our Bowling Tournament again at your very fine club. Cyril, David and the boys & girls who helped us on the day were truly magnificent and they could not be better hosts. I haven’t got Cyril’s email to thank him again personally, perhaps you can forward this email on to him. The only thing missing, was you and John. The day went without a hitch and we were well ahead of our programme which meant the car park was well clear before the funeral party arrived. Cyril mentioned how much we had improved from last year, which was a big factor to this. The weather was kind again, having been threaten by the weather forecasts to expect rain, but it held off and we played in very comfortable temperature. We would very much like to hold this event again at the same time again in 2015 on the day that could be made free in your busy calendar. Perhaps you could give us a date if your committee agree to have us again next year. I would like to change the formula for next year. The feedback from our members was they had a fantastic time, but it was a bit tiring for some of our elder members. I would like to lay on some lunchtime entertainment. What I was thinking, I would like to hire an accordion player or a small Dixie band to play over the lunchtime period to add a bit of atmosphere to the lunch. If you are OK with this, I will try and source a suitable performer and make a booking once I have a date back from you. I have in my dairy that we are playing you in an evening 9 player match on Tuesday 18th at 6pm that Ron Snow is organising. Unfortunately I will not be able to take part myself as I find myself on holiday on this date. However, I will organise our team before I go away and will give you and Ron the names of our team and liaise with him before I go. I will write an article for the Guardian newspaper and send then a photograph to publish of our Bowls Tournament so as to promote both our clubs. We, like yourselves are seeking to recruit new members. If any of your members would like to take up singing, we would love to see them. Please ask them if they would like to join us and if so, we invite them to come along to our rehearsals on any Wednesday night at 8pm at The London Reform Church in London Road, Ewell. They do not have to be great singers, none of us are, they will be made to feel more than welcome. Thank you again, Kind regards, George |
