Bowls England Two Fours

Epsom travelled the short distance to play Epsom Park in the third round of the B E Two Fours on Sunday 15th June 2025. They lost on both rinks & the match 21 - 41.

Details:

Rink 2  Roger Jackson Bob Blaker David Fearn Martin Harbottle  lost 11 - 24

Epsom were 6 - 8 down after 9 ends & 9 - 20 behind on end 15.  They lost by 13 shots.

Rink 3  Phil Sims John Hart John Warren Norman Mann  lost 10 - 19

Epsom were 5 - 11 down after 9 ends & 8  15 behind on end 15.  They lost by 7 shots.

Final Score: Epsom 21 Epsom Park 41

 

Mixed Friendly

Epsom played at home against Bookham in a mixed friendly match on Saturday 14th June 2025. They won on 2 rinks, lost on 2 rinks & won overall 61 - 60. Epsom were 20 - 28 down after 9 ends across the 4 rinks & 6 shots behind (46 - 52) on ends 15.  They outscored Bookham 15 - 8 over the last 3 ends to win by 1 shot.

Epsom were 3 - 14 down after 9 ends & 11 - 15 behind on end 15.  They lost by 8 shots.

Rink 2  Barry Hillson Karen Wellard Ruth Baker Bob Blaker  lost 11 - 19

Epsom were 3 - 8 down after 9 ends, 8 - 17 behind on end 15 & lost by 8 shots.

Rink 3  John Wellard Rob Murkin Trish Southgate Mary Green  won 24 - 8

Epsom led 9 - 4 after 9 ends & 19 - 6 on end 15.  They won by 16 shots.

Rink 4  Elaine Coe Christine Summerfield Brian Collis Keith Roberts  won 15 - 14

Epsom led 6 - 5 after 9 ends, but were 8 - 14 down on end 15. They won the last 3 ends to win by 1 shot.

On the last end the rink needed 4 shots to win their rink & win the match.  Keith trailed the jack for these 4 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 61  Bookham 60

Rob Murkin & Annette Jordan played in their first mixed match for Epsom Bowling Club.

Men's Friendly

Epsom men played away against Chessington on Wednesday 11th June 2025. They won on 2 rinks, lost on 1 rink & won overall 57 - 37.

Epsom were 2 - 12 down after 9 ends & 5 - 20 behind on end 15.  They lost by 16 shots.

Rink 2  Keith Roberts Brian Collis David Fearn  won 15 - 12

Epsom led 9 - 4 after 9 ends & 14 - 8 on end 15.  They won by 3 shots.

Rink 3  Nick Rowan Bob Blaker Les Owen  won 36 - 3

Epsom led 26 - 0 after 12 ends, won 15 of the 18 ends to win by 33 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 57  Chessington 37

Did you know

Epsom first played Chessington in a Men's friendly match in 2010.  Since then there have been 14 games & Epsom have won all of these.  There has been 1 game cancelled.

 

Aea 3 Top 4

Epsom travelled to Bletchingley to play in the Area 3 Top 4 on Tuesday 10th June 2025 and won 18 - 11.

Details:

Rink 3  Roger Jackson Phil Sims David Fearn Norman Mann  won 18 - 11

After 9 ends Epsom led 7 - 6, but were 8 - 11 down on end 13.  They won all the remaining ends to win by 7 shots.

Roger, Phil & Norman played in their first game in this Competition.

 

Vilamoura Mixed League

Epsom played against Croydon on Wednesday 11th June 2025.  They won away, lost at home & lost overall 30 - 40 (2 - 4).

Details:

Home: Don Indran Trish Southgate Fred Read  lost 12 - 23

Epsom were 7 - 11 down after 9 ends & lost the next 6 ends to go 7 - 21 down.  They lost by 11 shots.

Away: Janet Newman Roger Jackson Phil Sims  won 18 - 17

Epsom were 5 - 12 down after 9 ends, but were level 16 - 16 on end 16.  They went into the last end 16 - 17 down, but scored 2 shots to win by 1 shot.

Final Score:  Epsom 30  Croydon 40   Epsom 2 points  Croydon 4 points

Don Indran played in his first game in this league.

Chrystie League

Epsom men played their second Chrystie league game of the season at home against Bookham on Monday 9th June 2025. They won on 1 rink, lost on 1 rink & won overall 33 - 26 (3 - 1). After 9 ends across the 2 rinks Epsom led 17 - 13 & went on to win by 7 shots.

The scores were level 7 - 7 after 9 ends, but Epsom were 9 - 14 down on end 15.  They lost by 7 shots.

Rink 2  Terry Mears Richard Price Mick Cooper David Fearn  won 23 - 9

Epsom won 12 of the 18 ends on this rink.  They led 10 - 6 after 9 ends, 16 - 9 on end 15 & won by14 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 33  Bookham 26  Epsom 3 points  Bookham 1 point

Epsom men played their sixth league game of the season away against Croydon MO's on Saturday 7th June 2025.  They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 42 - 53 (2 - 8). After 14 ends across the 3 rinks Epsom led 37 - 36, but were out scored 5 - 17 over the last 4 ends to lose by 11 shots.

Epsom were 5 - 9 down after 9 ends, but led 13 - 10 on end 13.  They lost all the remaining ends to lose by 10 shots.

Epsom led 12 - 5 after 9 ends & 16 - 10 on end 15.  They won by 6 shots.

Epsom were 4 - 10 down after 9 ends & 9 - 16 behind on end 15.  They lost by 7 shots.

Bowls England - Top Club (Top 11)

Epsom men played away against Bookham in the Bowls England Top Club on Wednesday 4th June 2025. They won the Two Wood Singles & Pairs, but lost the 4 Wood Singles, Triples & Fours. They lost 2 - 3.

Details:

Rink 6  Singles: David Bragg lost 15 - 21

David was 6 - 10 down after 10 ends, but was level 13 - 13 on end 16.  He lost by 6 shots after 21 ends.

Rink 5  Two Wood: Stefan Tomm won 16 - 11

Stefan led 8 - 4 after 8 ends & 13 - 8 on end 15.  He went on to win by 5 shots after 19 ends.

Rink 4  Pairs David Fearn Jim Scott  won 21 - 5

David & Jim dominated this game winning 14 of the 16 ends played.  They dropped 3 shots on the first end & won the next 13 ends to lead 20 - 3.  They won by 16 shots.

Rink 3  Triples: Phil Sims John Warren Norman Mann  lost 11 - 14

Epsom were 4 - 5 down after 7 ends & lost the next 5 ends to trail 4 - 11.  They won the last 3 ends, but lost by 3 shots.

Rink 2  Fours: Keith Roberts Fred Read Martin Harbottle Les Owen  lost 13 - 18

The scores were level 7 - 7 after 8 ends & still level 12 - 12 on end 14. Epsom lost the next 3 ends to go 12 - 18 down & lost by 5 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 2  Bookham 3

Fred Read played in his first game in this Competition.

Mixed Friendly

Epsom played their first mixed friendly match away against Malden Manor on Tuesday 3rd June 2025. 

They won on 1 rink, lost on 2 rinks & lost overall 49 - 51.  Epsom were behind all afternoon across the 3 rinks.  They were 20 -27 down after 9 ends and 14 shots (33 - 47) behind on ends 15.  They fought back well over the last 3 ends to lose by just 2 shots.

Rink 2  Barry Coe Liz Hind Frank Thompson Bob Blaker  lost 15 - 18

Epsom were 4 - 13 down after 9 ends & 7 - 18 behind on end 14.  They won the last 4 ends & lost by 3 shots.

Rink 3  Penny Payne Lynn Phillips Richard Price David Fearn  lost 13 - 21

The scores were level 8 - 8 after 10 ends.  They took the lead 9 - 8 on the next end, but lost the next 5 ends to trail 9 - 21.  They lost by 8 shots.

Rink 4  Elaine Coe Christine Summerfield Roger Jackson Phil Sims  won 21 - 12

The scores were also level 8 - 8 after 10 ends on this rink. However, Epsom won 6 of the remaining ends to win by 9 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 49  Malden Manor 51.

Did you know

Epsom first played Malden Manor in a mixed friendly match in 2013.  Since then the clubs have met 11 times with Epsom winning 8 & losing 3. They lost in 2019,2024 & 2025.

 

Chrystie League

Epsom men played their first Chrystie league game of the season at home against Esher on Monday 2nd June 2025. They won on both rinks & the match 42 - 27 (4 - 0).  Epsom led all evening across the 2 rinks.  They led 19 - 15 after 9 ends & by 15 shots (38 - 23) on ends 15.  They won by 15 shots.

Rink 2  John Wellard Mick Cooper Bob Blaker Phil Sims  won 19 - 15

Epsom were 7 - 9 down after 9 ends, but led 18 - 12 on end 15.  They won by 4 shots.

Rink 3  Richard Price Robert York John Hart David Fearn  won 23 - 12

Epsom led 12 - 6 after 9 ends & 20 - 11 on end 15.  They won by 11 shots.

Final Score:  Epsom 42  Esher 27  Epsom 4 points  Esher 0 points.

Did you know

This is the 45th time that Epsom have played Esher in this league.  They have won 30, lost 12 & there have been 3 drawn matches. Last season Epsom won at home & lost away.

Since the league began Epsom have now played 218 matches, won 130, lost 81 & drawn 7.

Epsom have won this league on 5 occasions - 2004, 2017, 2018, 2023 & 2024.

 

Thw Windeler Cup was played on Sunday 1st June 2025

The Windeler Challenge Cup, which dates back to 1927, was played out this year by 24 members who were split in to 8 mixed teams of triples. Pool A consisted of 4 teams who played all in the opposing Pool B. 
The teams played 4 matches in the initial rounds of 4 ends, keeping a running total of shots both for and against. The winning teams were those with the most positive shot difference in each of the two pools.
Group A runners up were Richard Price, Ruth Baker and Mary Green (+4) and winners were Barry Hillson, Christine Summerfield and Mick Cooper (+7).
In Group B joint runners up were Lynn Phillips, Karen Wellard and John Warren (0) who tied with Penny Payne, Terry Mears and Fi Drinkall (0), with winners of the group emerging as Liz Hind, Frank Thompson and Jim Scott (+5).
The final was played out by the group winners over 5 ends, Barry, Christine and Mick led 3-1 after 3 ends but a late charge from Liz, Frank and Jim saw them win the last 2 ends, picking up 7 shots in the process to take the match and the title 8-3.
Well done to all involved, congratulations to all our finalists and to this year’s champions Liz Hind, Frank Thompson and Jim Scott.
